Jimbo, even better after the second read. This is probably my favorite of a whole bunch of favorites from you. Money helps but it doesn't provide everything in life. And yeah, even though it's flat as a pancake, has virtually no carbonation, loaded with sugar and caffeine - I still need a Mountain Dew every once on a while. Been drinking that stuff since high school, which is right around when electricity came to be. Can't wait for what you got coming. - Jim

Thanks, Jim for the kind comment. Mountain Dew is the preferred soft drink around here and don't nobody dare offer you a Sprite instead! As for me, I'll have a diet Coke.

Dr. Pepper is king here. First concocted and sold at a single corner drug store in Waco, Texas…..Everything else is just called a ‘coke’ ;)

This read better the second time. From Dwayne's often sardonic narrative to the mistaken names, to the shared experience of the two men, to the metaphor of the appearance of the ocean, to the free-spirited bull, you show that life is life regardless of the facades we present, and you make us laugh. A thoroughly enjoyable read, Jim. I'm looking forward to reading your new work.

I think I'm the courageous female bull who doesn't take any of any felon's stuff, be he president or not! I'm for everything you write about.

Thanks for the fun.

Thanks for bringiing this back, Jim. You have created such a sympathetic character here in Dwayne. I would like to buy the guy a beer, give him a few minutes of sincere friendship. He could sure use a break. I love his lists of trees, his descriptions of all he sees in his environs. His eyes are open. The metaphor of the bull is so darned clever, Jim. This story is a sure prize-winner.

Thank you for putting up with a long re-read, Sharron. I'm so happy you like Dwayne. Yes, his eyes are now open. I like him too but it's time for him to let go of the mullet. Maybe he'll meet-up with Tony from "Weather Report" or better yet, Marla and Helene!

Oh man, yes! Dwayne would LOVE Haylene! She would give his worn out heart the affection it needs!

I mistakenly said Helene instead of Haylene because Helene is one of our oldest friends who we just saw the other night. Believe me, Helene would never be mistaken for Haylene!

Great story. Love the bull, of course. And this, as a kind of life lesson: Maybe all of this just looked better from a distance. BTW, some months ago we were chatting about a bull I once had. I finally found the picture. Too bad I can't post it here.

Thank you, Virginia. Yes, maybe everything looks better from a distance. I still want to see your bull though. Maybe send it to me on Chat? Thanks for the kind comment.

Man, I love all the stuff going on here, especially the humor. I was a carpet installer's helper for a bit, fresh out of high school and there are so many elements you captured about those encounters. You sure can't predict a day. Thanks for bringing back this one Jim. Look forward to your next!

Thanks for re-reading, Ron. Yeah, it's amazing what you will find out about people when you're working in their house. Some of the stuff that clients told me over the years would make you blush. Glad you got a chuckle out of this one, my friend.

"Actually, sir, it's Dwayne, not Wayne." LOL. Your descriptions and timing here and all the little ways Dwayne has of putting things is pretty awesome. This is the perfect working man's story where nothing goes right. I love it. Great post, Jim.
