Girls, cars, and music: the big three of my youth. No social media, no cell phones, no computers. Hell, we didn't even have electronic calculators. I found my girl 44 years ago, but I'm still looking for new summers. You caught the innocence of youth in this wonderful poem, Jim.
Thank you Martine. I read your latest piece on style and very much enjoyed it. I have been traveling and neglecting to comment but I always enjoy your posts.
Oh my! You took yourself way back -- and us along with you. This stanza is so beautiful "Countless sunsets to squander, a million miles to misspend. When young and God-kissed, mark no time, see no end." That is exactly the feeling when one is just approaching adulthood. The future seems so long, and full of promise. I love the mood you created here, Jim
May we all be "driving toward a new summer." Liked this, Jim!
Keep the wheels turning brother Ron!
You can't really know something until you've experienced it. Youth can't know old age. Probably just as well...
Exactly, my friend.

Thanks K.C. I'm hoping for many new summers for you and your girl.
I really liked this poem. Especially these lines:
Countless sunsets to squander,
million miles to misspend.
When young and God-kissed,
mark no time, see no end.
Thank you, K.M. I'm always flattered when a reader quotes a line that struck a chord with them.
Beautiful, Jim. This feels melancholy and hopeful and accepting.
My favourite line:
"and lay tangled-tired
and made up new summers."
Thank you, Nathan. I always appreciate your kind comments.
Really beautiful, Jim. It made me feel very warm inside.
Thank you, Terry. I might have been playing some blues harp in that car.
As I've been explaining in many of my replies, I have been traveling and have gotten behind on my reading and comments. I still love ya bro.
Thanks, Jim. I didn't doubt that for a second 😊 But I was wondering if all was well. It's definitely a blues harp kinda post!
Nostalgic
Thank you, my friend. I have been traveling and have some catching up to do on your wonderful stories.
Retirement is in my near view mirror, Jim. I'm feelin those lost pieces bouncing, my friend. Thanks for this one.
Thanks Ron. As long as none of the important pieces are falling off, we're still good.
Beautiful. Thank you.

Beautiful imagery.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, way back to the time when I felt that youth was static. Appreciate your kind comments, Sharron.
Thank you for the restack, Ron
